The Future of the C.K.C.
• Ups and Downs have been the history of the C.K.C. for many years in the past, and the same is true now.
• Behaviour and sportsmanship by some exhibitors at events have become shocking and disgusting. We lose decent exhibitors every year because of judges, clubs and witnesses turning a blind eye to infractions and poor sportsmanship. There are ways to counter this without reinventing the wheel, with other International canine clubs and Registries to learn from. Registries around the world investigate and have regulations and penalties in place with regard to bad or unprofessional behaviour. There are credible and real options available to incur responsibility by all parties, if the membership sends the right people to the Board. Accountability for ones actions or non-action should include consequences that are meaningful.
• Judges should be monitored for their behaviour and actions with meaningful interactions. Not just writing memory based tests and procedures, but evidence of ring protocols and real canine knowledge of the breeds assigned, on a regular, even yearly basis.
• Obedience, the most vital of all canine activities, is losing judges without replenishment.
• Review of judging accreditation requirements and options is paramount.
• Effective implementation and review of IT changes is overdue. The past few years of the registration upgrades were embarrassing at best and not up to the standards of other international canine organizations.
• Better use of councils as it is noteworthy that 14 councils did not have a meeting in 2022 according to the AGM report. Immediate attention by the Board must be given to this item as well.
• Over-haul of the Junior Handling and Obedience Program needs Board and Judges support and revisiting. Not window dressing and platitudes but through meaningful competitions under the auspices of licensed judges.
• Upgrade of Ring Stewarding options and electronic recordings for immediate download.
In closing, I view things from the perspective of critical analysis, considering unintended consequences of a status quo situation, accepting that perfection is not the enemy of improvement.
Making sure that some of the new canine sports and competitions are not hijacked by special interest groups.
Reminding us that Seminars, conferences and workshops were in their golden age in the seventies and eighties with in-person being the only way to attend as this builds confidence in the membership as implicated participants. Recognizing that there is an advantage to this through receiving immediate feedback on ideas and concepts from instructors and your peers.
For a membership driven organization, the Board should be comprised of members who have a critical approach to respecting and developing the long term goals and plans that involve the members and protect the pure-breed dog movement at all times.
I have dreamed, implemented and achieved for the education of dogs and their activities.
Vote for progress and achievement
